Summerlicious Strikes Again & Again - Liberty Commons

Summerlicious makes me go to the other end of the city for some eats and brews, but it's so worth it. Liberty Common was my second stop this year. Close to Exhibition Station, this was easy to find. On the lower level of the building, they have a large dining/bar area and a newly opened patio.

When I arrived, I asked for the patio and they said no, but I could see empty tables. My friend arrived and asked for the patio, she was adamant about it,  so they cleaned one for us. There was no patio when I made the reservation or I would've asked!

We both started with the Ontario Tomato and Charred Zucchini Salad. That smoky corn hummus was fantastic. It was intense, but the mellow flavours of the ripe tomatoes and baby spinach balanced it out. The tomatoes were HUGE! Definitely not bit sized, but they were so good, I didn't care. Love tomatoes!

For the main, I had the Alberta Lamb Burger and my friend went with the Commoner's Smoke Plate. The burger was tasty. I don't have these often, so it's a nice flavour and texture change from beef. The fries were crispy and seasoned, just like I like them! My friend's tray of meat was huge. She couldn't finish it, but she said the ribs and brisket were juicy and smoky and just plain good; even the potato salad was tasty.

Dessert. I had planned on having Me Mum's Summer Trifle, but when our server described the S'Mores Soft Serve, I was sold. My friend was not convinced and still went with the trifle. She said she liked it, but our server and I still thought she was a little jealous of my ice cream. It had toasted marshmallow blended into the ice cream, smothered in melted chocolate and sprinkled with graham crackers. Who says no to that? People who hate sunshine, that's who. 😉 It was so good, I wish I could've had another!

The drink selection was obviously stellar, since LC is at Big Rig Brewery. I had a Beer Lemonade with crushed raspberries in it. So refreshing! They had other Licious only beer cocktails as well, like Beer Mojito.

All of the staff there had a great sense of humour. The service itself was great, but joking with them and having them joke back made it a more amusing experience. A cool venue! Check it out!

Cheers,
Lisa
