I love sushi...a lot. And I mean A LOT. All You Can Eat(AYCE) used to happen at least once a week, but since I moved, I hadn't got a chance to check out the sushi scene here.
Upon entering Sakaye, I was immediately pleased. Sleek, clean and with all of the stereotypical stylings of a Japanese restaurant, lucky cat included. There was ample seating for small and large groups and each table was fitted with a call button! I wish every restaurant had this! My visit was on a Monday and it wasn't busy at all. The service was impeccable, fast and delicious. When it's AYCE, you always expect your drink to be full and it was. Green tea...Mmmmmm.
There were a few items I wanted to try, but even on the dinner AYCE, they were only available a la carte. She said it was because they were more expensive, but I was still sad. I'm all for trying new things, but there are some foods on the menu that were a little scary. BBQ Salmon Neck? We didn't order it, but the curiosity of exactly what a salmon neck looks like will always make me wonder. Even my sushi loving friend wouldn't try it! And then there was the opposite. There were items on the AYCE menu that weren't on the regular menu, so we had NO IDEA what they were. It was nice to see staff that knows their stuff! The menu was large enough that any meat eater, veggie eater and anything eater will not leave disappointed.
Overall, it was a great first visit and I would go again. The gyoza was to die for. The spicy tuna was delicious. The salmon sashimi(sans neck) was amazing. And ANY roll with 'french sauce' on it made my day! I'm not usually a spicy gal, but that sauce is converting me. If you ever venture to the area, drop in and eat all you can...we did!
That's all for now!
